A couple of years some thieves figured the best way to disconnect an €1800 30″ Apple Cinema Display was by cutting the video cable. Since then, the screen has been sitting defunct in a corner, taking up space. Today, I decided to at least have a go at repairing the beast.

The 24 pin DVI cable was cut off pretty clean, about 10 cm from the connector. The other end wasn’t too long either, as about 20 cm from the cut the DVI cable merges with an USB, Firewire and power cable to join into one big cable that goes right into the monitor. Replacing the entire cable would require taking apart the monitor, which is sealed shut. For a while I figured I would break open the DVI connector and re-attach it. But God knows what I would have found inside there. If anything, probably very little room to use a soldering iron. So I decided to strip the insulation of both ends and solder them together.

Probeer net als ULURU|Beagle ook in 2010 honderd procent spiritualiteit en zingeving te voelen op het werk. Lukt dat niet helemaal, dan is het misschien een goed idee om je te laten inspireren door persoonlijke ervaringen van kopstukken uit profit- en non-profitorganisaties. Zij leggen hun spirtuele bronnen blood in een scheurkalender.

Maar liefst 58 directeuren, managers, hoogleraren, organisatieadviseurs en trainers (auteurs van managementboeken over business spiritualiteit) laten weten waar zij hun inspiratie vandaan halen en hoe ze deze inzichten toepassen in de dagelijkse praktijk op de werkvloer, zonder ‘zweverig’ te worden.

De schrijvers vertellen bijvoorbeeld hoe je (nog meer) zin kunt krijgen in het werk, hoe je met passie besprekingen kunt voeren, verdieping kunt aanbrengen in relaties met collega’s of juist ontspannen kunt werken.

IJskoud breaking news: ULURU|Beagle werkte vanmorgen ook in de sneeuw aan een nieuwe creatie, een sneeuwpop rechts naast de voordeur.

Wat een feest: Sinterklaas reed dinsdag zeker niet stilletjes ons ULURU|Beagle-gebouw voorbij. Integendeel: de Goedheiligman en een vriendelijke Piet nodigden ons uit om in het theater het feest van de sint mee te vieren.

De bijzondere gasten verrasten ons met chocoladeletters en pepernoten en lieten een originele en grappige Keynote-presentatie zien over bijzondere momenten uit het ULURU-verleden. Het hele team van ULURU|Beagle bedankt Sinterklaas en zwarte Piet voor hun komst. Tot volgend jaar?

Innovatielab ULURU|Beagle besloot begin 2009 een elektrische scooter te gaan gebruiken om duurzame video-items te maken. Het bedrijf nam het voertuig een paar maanden in bruikleen van ZeroBikes Amsterdam, die de kwaliteit en technische ontwikkeling van het voertuig bewaakt.

Scoots
Verschillende ULURUianen rijden op de scooter, zoals Bernd en Miranda. Zij gebruiken het voertuig met name om in de stad op een snelle manier video-items te produceren. Bernd: “We interviewen mensen op straat over hun visie op allerlei ontwikkelingen die in de samenleving spelen.”

Onderwerpen zijn bijvoorbeeld duurzaamheid, openbaar vervoer en biologische voeding. “Wij kunnen samen met onze klanten hierop inspelen met nieuwe producten, diensten en bedrijfsmodellen. We noemen de interview-items ‘scoots’.”

A couple of weeks ago the ULURU|Beagle nerds united and occupied the ULURU Hotel. After moving some plants and furniture around and hooking up power lines and ethernet throughout the room we were pretty much all set.

Besides facilitating ULURU|Beagle’s daily ICT needs (Internet, e-mail, printing, storage, backup, etc), ULURU|Beagle Online serves as a one-stop-shop desk for the online aspect of all ULURU|Beagle projects. Building, running and maintaining the ULURU|Beagle websites as well as the websites of the various spin-outs, and creating concepts and prototypes for future websites and online platforms. Putting together people with knowledge of the different aspects of web technology, we are able to use and combine each others expertise to fully exploit the possibilities of the Internet.

ULURU|Beagle has produced the visual style, title and intro for a video series called ‘Spark Africa’, an initiative by Africa Interactive. The first video-item of the series can now be viewed on Dutch news sites such as RTLZ and NU Zakelijk.

With the support of Africa Interactive, well over 850 freelance video journalists in 43 African countries produce video items for news organizations, companies and NGOs.

These reporters are individually given the opportunity to expand their network & assignments, inform the world, support their families and improve their skills. They contribute to real news gathering, in freedom of speech and without censorship.

Funny thing crossing a border. It implicates that you’re about to spend loads of time outside your apartment. Okay, 30ºC helps also. Nevertheless, it’s more than the average inhabitant of Barca. Forget siesta, rent a couple of raggedy scooter, put on your sunglasses and start enjoying the environment. We’ve seen Barcelona from almost every perspective: cab, bike, pedestrian, car, bus, subway, tourist, in crowd, shopper, consumer. But nothing beats a scooter! A death race on a vehicle that goes faster than its specifications, cabdrivers who carefully avoid you, pedestrians seeing there lives flashing by. And you whooshing down Diagonal with the crackling of the paper Zara bags stuffed with shirts, shoes, sweaters between your legs. Destination Barcaloneta beach. No time to reflect on safety precautions. Next stop: Sitges. Isn’t sunshine and adrenaline a perfect combination! What should be the next mode of transportation? Or do we stay in the city centre and invest in Zara?

Mick, Adriaan and I went to Paris for a most inspiring meeting with marketeers from InterfaceFlor (eg Heuga, for Dutch readers). A truly inspiring international corporation with a heart of green gold. InterfaceFlor is the first company we’ve met that is sustainable through and through. Bothered by competition they are looking for a way to pass their message to the world. We had an energetic and interesting meeting with them. Paris is as interesting. She sends a message that is both exciting and inspiring! A great joy to be there with good company

Laatst bezocht ik een zogenaamde Swop-party. Een ideale gelegenheid om eens goed mijn kledingkast door te spitten waarbij ik een harde selectie-procedure hanteerde. Met name de kleding die al een jaar opgevouwen op dezelfde plek lag of met een nog aangehecht prijskaartje eraan moest eraan geloven.

Met een grote gevulde kledingtas, sandwiches en een heerlijk wijntje ging ik samen met een aantal vriendinnen op pad richting Swop-party. Deze vond plaats in een ruim park, aangrenzend aan het huis van de enthousiaste organisatrice. Wij zagen daar bergen kleding, een royale paskamer en een grote tafel met teveel aangename versnaperingen en gezellige dames!
