The start of Naked Bits
by dirk
This month I decided to start a new initiative together with ULURU 100% Brand: Naked Bits. ULURU’s goal is to encourage and support entrepreneurship. This allows the creation of new spin-offs next to ULURU/Beagle. Spin-offs with a different focus and different proposition that can profit from working closely together with ULURU/Beagle. So I stepped out of ULURU/Beagle to start a distinct offering: Basically an IT lab in which companies can play with technology.
Naked Bits stands for simple, transparent technology. Explained bit by bit. Even though we’re in the middle of a crisis most companies know that the world is rapidly changing, that customers are expecting another approach and that they need to innovate to be ready in the future. However budget cuts make any innovation much more difficult and require a much better justification than previously. So how do you know where to invest? Based on paper research? I want to offer another way for companies to decide how to invest: By trying it out first. Small scale, focused on simple tasks, every innovation can be prototyped and tested before being rolled out large scale.
The step for me is a big one: I am for the first time not employed anymore. No garantee of the end-of-month salary, no one but myself to be accountable to. It is a different feeling. Although ULURU kindly offered me to use their facilities the coming months to launch the company and I am still surrounded by the same ex-colleagues, my role has changed. And with it the way I observe what’s happening at ULURU/Beagle, from a distance now.
As for Naked Bits, I am now in a phase to investigate the feasibility of Naked Bits and setting up a proper company. We are positioning our offering in such a way that it doesn’t interfere with ULURU/Beagle. Naked Bits is about trying it out, and less about visualisation or animation. Naked Bits is about applying technology now for simple innovations, and less about a revolutionary vision for the business of next year.
I’m glad ULURU is supporting me in this initiative and that this is not a goodbye but the start of a new collaboration.
