Arnhem Mode Biënnale
by dirkPlastic look made of leather
Once every two years, Arnhem becomes the centre for fashion in the Netherlands. Last Saturday I was offered a special VIP treatment to visit the Arnhem Mode Biënnale exhibition under the guidance of a fashion expert and with a special introduction by Piet Paris, the man behind this year’s exhibition. I was amazed by the creativity that fashion designers show in their choice of materials and the way this exhibition is layed out. In brief, it’s a must for anyone interested in art and design: Until July 6th, make sure you pay a visit to Arnhem, you won’t be disappointed.
The biënnale consists of a main exhibition in the Eusebius church and around, plus various events and exhibitions inside fashion stores in Arnhem. Best therefore to visit when the shops are open, Saturday is most lively of course.
Beside designs from famous fashion houses (Lanvin, Victor&Rolf, Jil Sander, Comme des Garçons, many others…), many upcoming designers are exposed inside the church. Great surroundings with attention to many details, so you’re not just looking at the fashion but also the design of the exhibition itself. A lot of handy work by the students of the Hoge School voor Kunsten in Arnhem.
