To Infinity and Beyond!
by aran“I live by the week. Days tend to pass in the blink of an eye, months and years are too abstract. Weeks I can handle.”
Longer periods of time are increasingly hard to grasp. Just like we have difficulties relating to a number of people larger than about 150, we have difficulties dealing on an emotional level with centuries & millenia.

To make a point (and mess with our minds) Opium Magazine has released an infinity issue featuring a story that will take about a thousand years to read. The story is 9 words long and printed on the cover. Over the next millenium, each word should emerge, one by one. Check out their website and the Wired.com article.

In the meantime, the Dutch Time Foundation is doing their best to “promote understanding and awareness of the concept of ‘time’ as a condition for the creative development of cooperation between natural and human creative processes in space and time.” The Time Foundation was set up by Dutch ’savage gardener’ Louis Le Roy, who created the Eco-Cathedral in Mildam, NL. The Eco-Cathedral is a unique project where human energy interacts with nature. Essential to this concept is that it is allowed to run free in time and extend to infinity. Something local city planners had considerable trouble dealing with.
