De strijd tussen Mac & PC is naar ‘the next level’ gebracht. Voorheen werd de strijd altijd uitgevochten met argumenten in al dan niet leuke filmpjes. Maar de strijd wordt opgevoerd. Deze slag is voor de Mac , maar wie de oorlog wint…

Last night I went to the Badcuyp, a restaurant and live jazz venue near the Albert Cuyp in Amsterdam. After a good meal with the sweet voice of Brancka (a singer from Groningen, specialized in Brazilian music) in the background, we were promised an experimental jazz session by Stormvogel’s Alter Ego Jazzbarock Consort, featuring Wieke Aurora Garcia. I’m not too big a fan of experimental jazz. I find that they often try too hard to be experimental, and forget it’s music they are supposed to make. But after reading that analog synthesizers as well as a set of bagpipes would be involved, I decided to stick around…

There is something unsettling about air travel. As planes and clouds look the same around the world, flying is like being put in a capsule and blasted into an entirely different culture. You don’t know what hits you until screeching people, screaming taxi cabs and strange smells wash over you. But just because it’s unsettling, doesn’t mean its bad. Quite the opposite. Especially in this case: the 2008 ULURU trip to Istanbul.

De ULURU/ Istanbul trip was een inspiratiereis pur sang. We bewogen ons van donderdag tot en met zondag in de bruisende wereldstad. We snoven de Turkse cultuur op en de relaxerende rook uit een waterpijp. We genoten van vele indrukwekkende gebouwen zoals de Blue Mosque en Aya sofia, struinden door de pittoreske staatjes en over de bazaar, lieten ons het Turkse eten en drinken goed smaken, ontdekten het uitgaansleven, lieten ons masseren en voeren op een boot op de zee van Marmaris langs The Princes’ Islands, waarna we op een van de eilanden de natuurschoon en de koloniale huizen bekeken. Op de fiets. Goed om Istanbul te hebben mogen ervaren en om elkaar – in een andere omgeving en op een andere manier – te hebben mogen meemaken.

Wist u dat…
- Istanbul qua grootte vergelijkbaar is met de provincie Utrecht en dat de stad 15 miljoen inwoners heeft?
- Zeven ULURU-ianen zondagavond niet naar huis mochten, vanwege een overboeking in het vliegtuig? Zij kwamen maandag rond 12.30 uur op Schiphol aan.

The 7th of November Mick, Jen, Maarten en Sylvia were guests at a special evening organised by SBS Broadcasting. In the Factory in Amsterdam was the premiere of the 22nd James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’. The movie was good, the after party great.

A lot of people, myself included, struggle to define what ULURU is.
